Carbohydrates or "Carbs" .. Fitness Nutrition Block 2 of 3!

Yes, your fitness training nutrition program or Body Food must include carbohydrates! They are your energy source! They give you the stamina to achieve!

In recent years, they have gotten somewhat of a bum rap as many fad diets, books and programs have advocated that people stay away from a diet rich in carbohydrates. Honestly, it does work ....BUT only for a little while. Go too long without an adequate supply of good carbs and the body will begin to break down muscle for energy. I don't think that I need to tell you that this is a very bad thing!

So ... The body NEEDS them! You get your energy from them! But ... we need to make sure you're eating the right kinds and the right amount. They are not all created equal. Some are great, we call those COMPLEX and some are just plain junk, appropriately called SIMPLE!

Here's a short list of some of the good or Complex variety:

Potatoes - Idaho, Russet, Sweet, etc.

Rice - Wild, Brown, Natural

Pasta - Whole Wheat Varities

Breads - Whole grain varieties only. More is better!

Oatmeal - Plain, with cinnamon or with real brown sugar.

Fresh Fruit - Apple, Orange, Melon, Strawberry (no canned)

Beans - Black, Kidney and others (Natural, no sauces)

Dairy Products - Milk, Yogurts (Fat-free, Skim, etc.)
